What is Acupuncture?

────

A Few

Words About Acupuncture

The World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health recognize the efficacy of acupuncture for several conditions such as back pain, digestive issues, and mood disorders. While rooted in ancient tradition spanning over 5,000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that is practiced today is done so through an evidence informed lens. This means that traditional acupuncture treatments have been the subject of scientific research with thousands of studies having been done in the past twenty years. More information of scientific research can be found here.

How Does

Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is the use of single use needles to stimulate specific points along the body. These points correlate with different organs and metabolic functions to improve the free flow of the TCM concept of ‘Qi.’ Qi can best be equated with the body’s ability to regulate and self-heal. The purpose of stimulating these points is to trigger the release of endorphins and other hormones to allow the body to return to homeostasis. This process can have profound impacts on physical, mental, emotional, as well as reproductive health. Other modalities may be used in TCM such as cupping, gua-sha, medical massage, electric needle stimulation, and herbal formulas to create a well-rounded approach to healing.

What my patients are saying...

"After suffering from debilitating back pain for over 10 years, I feel like myself again. I am no longer considering back surgery."

"Dr. Benco is a true healer. I suffered from a medical emergency that left me struggling. I wasn't sure if or how I would recover. Shortly after I started seeing Dr. Benco for weekly treatments. I truly believe that without her, I wouldn't have recovered as quickly or be as well as I am today."
"Thank you for helping my husband and I on our fertility journey. After suffering several losses, we are overjoyed to welcome our baby boy.  You took the time to listen and create a safe space for healing and I can never thank you enough."
